South Spencer High School Proms 1965 - 2009

History of South Spencer's Prom:

South Spencer High School has been in existence since 1965. It was formed by joining Luce Township and Rockport high schools. The prom sponsorship was on a rotating basis with each teacher taking a turn. Mr. Raymond Dawson's turn came in 1969. After the prom, he told the principal, Ray Lindsey, that he felt he could do a better job and volunteered for one more year. Tahitian Holiday was a fantastic success and Mr. Lindsey was so impressed that he made Mr. Dawson permanent prom sponsor. In 1997, Mr. Dawson resigned after 29 years as prom sponsor.

Mr. Cevin Collins was prom sponsor from 1998 to 2003.

The bands that we have hired are: Corvettes, Carnations & Trendells, Soulwalkers, Midwest, Christopher Robin, Free Reign, Bluff City, Bandit, Mixed Company, and Midnight Flyer. In 1989, we switched to a DJ from 96 STO. Donald Smith was the DJ from 1990 to 1997. The Party Train was the DJ in 1998. For 1999, Spectrum Sound provided the music. In the year 2000, Disc-Daddy's provided the music. The DJ for Prom 2001 was Doc Harris from Owensboro.

City Lights Under Heavenly Nights, in 1988, won 4th place in Anderson's Decorating Contest and we received a $25 check. We also won 4th place in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996. In addition, Masked Colors of the Night was one of only six from across the United States to be included in Anderson's promotional video.
